Code Blue

-Two-one-thousand, three-one-thousand, for-one-thousand, breath
Five-one-thousand, one-one thousand, two-one thousand, breath
Three-one-thousand, four-one-thousand, five-one-thousand, stop!
Stop!, stop life, stop heart, stop CPR

A life that came has gone
A heart that beat now sleeps
Hands that push then rest
Needles and IVs put down.

"He's gone, he wouldn't have made it."
Doctors, nurses walk away,
Techs and medics step down
Medical student, hands clenched for more.

What do I do!
What do I say!
Where is my strength!
Where is my life?

Watching a man die,
Perhaps already dead
Sixty-seven years old in
A silent soliloquy.

I look at the corpse, yet warm
I see am that once lived
I glimpse an open hand
His golden watch ticks away.

Silence fills my body as
I stand back to see death.
Alone, my soul queries to God
Alone, my mind becomes a machine

One-one-thousand, two-one-thousand, three-one-thousand
Four-one-thousand, five-one-thousand, one-one thousand
Two-one-thousand, three-one-thousand, four-one-thousand
five-one-thousand, one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand...
